Rocket Technologies International (RTI) partnered with Queensland Police Service to provide specialist training to police forensic scientists from across Australia.
By leveraging RTI’s energetics facilities and systems of work, police teams were able to collect forensic data, refine procedures, and train personnel in a real world, post blast environment.

The Challenge
Police forensic and operational units face two critical challenges when dealing with improvised explosives:
1. Analysis – determining how a device was made, how it functions, and what evidence can be extracted.
2. Elimination – safely neutralising or disposing of unstable devices in the field.
Conventional forensic laboratories are not designed to replicate these high-risk scenarios, and training opportunities are limited. Queensland Police Service required a partner with purpose-built facilities, robust safety systems, and the technical expertise to replicate real-world explosive threats.
Technical Achievements
• Conducted controlled live tests of improvised devices at RTI’s Energetics Test Site.
• Captured forensic data on blast effects, detonation characteristics, and fragmentation.
• Enabled safe, repeatable training scenarios for police teams to practise forensic techniques under realistic conditions.

Police from across Australia gained valuable forensic training and experience in post blast analysis, operation of surveillance drones and Remote Positioning Vehicles (RPV) otherwise known as bomb robots. Activities such as this ensure Australia’ s police and other first responders are well prepared should they face explosive events.
